KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team hosted the Texas Woman's Pioneers for their series finale where they would fall 0-1 in a game full of pitching and defense.
The first inning flew by as both squads would go down in order to send things to the second quickly where the action would start in the game.
The top half of the second would see the Pioneers start off with a double to right center, followed by an advance to third on a groundout. This would set up the Pioneers for a SAC fly and what would be the only run of the game heading to the bottom of the second.
The bottom half would see the Javelinas go down in order sending the game to the third Pioneers up 1-0.
A walk would be the only offensive production in the top half as the Javelinas would get things to the bottom of the third quickly.
Victoria Mosqueda would lead the inning off with a walk followed by a groundout that pinch runner
Shelbie Peal would try to advance to third on and get thrown out making it two quick outs in the inning. A two out single by
Seleste Compian and a
Breana Carr single to left along with both runners advancing on the throw would set up runners on second and third with two out in the inning. A fly out would end the inning with the Javelinas kept at bay as the game would progress to the fourth still down 0-1.
The top of the 4
th would only see a one out single before progressing on to the bottom of the fifth.
Aaliyah Ortiz would be the only production for the Javelinas in the bottom half as she would knock a double to right before the inning would end sending things to the fifth.
Texas Woman's would go down in order in the top half of the 5
th and the Javelinas would almost do the same, but
Compian would get on via a fielding error to extend the inning.
Carr would single through to the right side and
Compian would be waved home but would be called out on a bang-bang play at the plate keeping the Javelinas off the board.
The 6
th would see both squads going down in order to move things right along into the 7
th where the Pioneers would draw a leadoff walk before hitting into a 6-4-3 double play sending things to the bottom half and making it the last call for the Javelinas. They would go down in order to end the game dropping the finale 0-1 and falling in the series 2-1.
The Javelinas will be back at home next time out facing off in the last series of the season against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds Friday April 19
th at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM and for Senior Day Saturday April 20
th at 12:00 PM.
