Javelina men’s basketball announces 2023-24 schedule

TAMUK prepares for first season under head coach Omar Gonzalez

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M University - Kingsville and Javelina Athletics have officially announced the 2023-24 men's basketball schedule on Thursday, Sept. 7. 

The 2023-24 season will mark the first for head coach Omar Gonzalez who takes over the program after serving on the staff as an assistant coach for the past seven seasons. 

"Our team is ready to play," said Gonzalez ahead of the season. "We cannot wait to represent this university at the highest level every night." 

After a scrimmage at home on Oct. 25 against Coastal Bend College, the Javelinas will tip-off the regular season on the road against South Dakota Mines on Friday, Nov. 10 before continuing against Chadron State the next day. 

TAMUK will stay on the road for two more RMAC opponents the following weekend, traveling to take on Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado on Nov. 17-18. 

"I am excited to be able to start the season off against four really good regional opponents from the RMAC," said head coach Gonzalez. "It will be a good test for our team to come together early especially because they are all on the road." 

The Hogs will have their regular season home opener on Nov. 22, against Our Lady of the Lake before opening conference play at the SPEC against Angelo State and UT Permian Basin on Nov. 30 and Dec. 2. 

After three road contest the following week against West Texas A&M, Lubbock Christian, and Texas A&M-International, the Javs return home for pivotal games against rivals St. Mary's and St. Edward's to begin the new year on Jan. 4 and 6. 

The Javelinas then prepare for their longest stint on the road in conference play with contests against Arkansas Fort Smith, Oklahoma Christian, Dallas Batist, and UT Tyler. 

On Jan. 25 and 27, the Hogs will be back to welcome Western and Eastern New Mexico from the Land of Enchantment before heading back on the road for games against St. Edward's and St. Mary's in the first week of February. 

The Blue and Gold then will have four straight home games on Feb. 8, 10, 15, and 17 as they take on Oklahoma Christian, UAFS, UT Tyler, and Dallas Baptist. 

The team will end the regular season with two road games against Midwestern State and Cameron before ending the season at home on Feb. 29 against TAMIU, and then will prepare for the LSC Conference Tournament in Frisco, Texas on March 7-10.
