CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team continued its weekend at the Islander Open against a field of Division I competition with another strong showing. The only Division II team in the field, the Javelinas picked up right where they left off on day one, picking up another three singles wins.
Highlighting day two of the tournament,
Milou ter Morsche grinded out a tiebreaker win, 6-3, 1-6, 11-9, to advance to the finals of her flight. She faces off against Yaiza Vazquez of UTRGV Sunday at 11 a.m. to decide the winner of Flight D.
Elsewhere,
Alessa Maier bounced back for a clean win in straight sets to advance to the consolation finals of Flight A, 6-1, 6-3. There, she faces Zeynep Ozturk of Utah State Sunday at 10 a.m.
Luna Jokanovic delivered a third singles win on the day for the Javelinas to also advance to the consolation finals of Flight E. Jokanovic also found herself with a tiebreaker win over Martina Alcaino Vergara from Lamar, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. She plays Emma Carr of Texas State Sunday at 12 p.m.
Doubles competition featured a battle of Javelinas as the duo of
Isabel Neumer and
Manuela Turolo took on
Annika Andersson Gomez and
Ella Hester. Neumer and Turolo took the victory in a hard-fought 6-4 match.
The Islander Open concludes tomorrow starting at 9 a.m., continuing on throughout the day.
