Javelinas headed to Louisiana for Southeastern Sugar Beach Slam

TAMUK will battle Spring Hill College, New Orleans, and North Alabama

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team is all set to visit Youngsville, Louisiana, as they take on a trio of programs at the Southern Sugar Beach Slam. First, they'll battle Spring Hill College on Friday at 9 a.m., ahead of a 1 p.m. contest with New Orleans. Saturday, they'll face the Privateers at 9 a.m. before a matchup with North Alabama at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Beach Volleyball Courts inside the Youngsville Sports Complex.

The Javelinas (4-7) are looking to snap a seven-game skid that has seen them drop contests to six NCAA Division I programs, including three Power Five teams. They remain undefeated against non-DI colleges and rank 66th on the Pablo team leader board.

Last time out, the No. 3 pair of junior Grace Gettys and freshman Olivia Zeigler, along with the No. 4 duo of newcomer Meghan Stiefer and classmate Kalani Vasquez, represented the only two tandems to take points in a weekend that saw TAMUK battle No. 1/1 Texas Christian, No. 4/5 Louisiana State and Southern Mississippi. Additionally, the Gettys/Zeigler pairing and the Stiefer/Vasquez combo each maintain a winning record, both going 6-5 on the season.

Spring Hill College represents the only other DII program to receive an invite, and the Badgers (9-3) check in at No. 42 on the Pablo listings. The team is riding a nine-game winning streak, with notable victories coming against Nebraska and Chattanooga, as the team has recently swept the Badger Ram Beach Bash as well as a pair of dual victories over Mobile.

The Badgers No. 3 pair of Linnea Beger and Kyla Shappell has been their best, going 6-1 to open the year and ranking 10th nationally,

The Privateers (7-5, 3-2 SLC) are coming off a split at the Southland Mid-Conference Tournament, picking up victories over San Jose State and Nicholls while taking two points against Boise State and Houston Christian. The tandem of Alexa Spartz and Trinity Jackson sit 15th nationally, among the No. 2's.

Meanwhile, the Lions (9-6) have won six straight, with three wins coming against Austin Peay, two against UT-Martin, and a sweep over Liberty. The No. 2 pair of Mackenzie Martin and Katy Floyd ranks 14th on the NCAA pair leader board, with a 9-3 record, while the No. 3 duo of Marti McLaurin and Selma Robinson sit 18th at 10-4. As a team, UNA is slotted 47th on the Pablo listings.
