Revenge on the Mind of the Javelinas as St. Edward's Comes to Town

No. 23 Texas A&M-Kingsville will play two games in four days to conclude its non-conference schedule

KINGSVILLE, Texas – A highly anticipated rematch is set as No. 23 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-1, 2-0 LSC) looks to avenge its early season loss to St. Edward's University (9-2, 1-1 Heartland Conference) at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center on Saturday, December 16 at 4 p.m.

One could argue that this is the biggest game of the season at this juncture albeit a non-conference game. After an unprecedented 8-0 start to the 2017-18 season, the Javelinas was handed their first loss thanks to St. Edward's. The Blue and Gold bounced back, however, with a 63-59 win over Cameron to open its four-game homestand.

Senior Trey Sumpter is the team leader, averaging 12.1 points per game (PPG) and 4.9 rebounds per game. He also ranks fifth in the conference with 23 made three-pointers. Jacolby Harris, an aggressive guard, scores 9.9 points per contest and ranks seventh with 49 free throw attempts. Caelan Neal averages 8.1 points followed by Derrick Byrd and Will West's 7.8 points.

The Hilltoppers enter Hog Heaven with a three-game winning streak that started with the upset over the Javelinas earlier this month. In their last game, they crushed Central Baptist College 88-66 on their home floor where they have yet to lose in the 2017-18 season. Playing on the road is a different story though. They are 1-2 with the first loss coming against Angelo State (106-93) and then fell in their conference opener versus Newman 72-70. This will be SEU's first regular season game on the road since November 30.

Landon Goesling sets the pace offensively with 21.5 points per game, followed by Dorian Lopez who averages 13.9 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game. James Taylor (13.1 PPG) and Sean Watkins (10.2 PPG) round out the top scorers for the Hilltoppers.

Fans can access the game via live streamed and live stats with both links available on the men's basketball schedule page on javelinaathletics.com.
