Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team upended third-ranked St. Mary's Tuesday evening 12-3 in key South Central Region meeting.
The Javelinas (11-7) entered the contest ranked eighth in the region. The Rattlers (17-5) entered the week ranked first in the region.
After scoring a run in the second, Kingsville crossed the plate 11 times between the fourth and seventh innings and had 15 hits in the game. The Hoggies plated three in fourth and two in each of the fifth and sixth innings. After St. Mary's scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the, Kingsville added four more runs in the seventh.
Leading 1-0 heading into the fourth after a run-scoring single by
Travis Laird in the second, Kingsville added three runs in the fourth. Back-to-back singles with two outs by
Ryan Guedry and
Justin Lee pushed the Hoggie lead to 4-0.
A two-run single in the fifth by
Matt Perez in the fifth extended Kingsville's lead to 6-0. The Javelinas added another pair in the sixth as
James Black and
Clint Wallace each had RBI singles.
A four-run seventh sealed the win. After Guedry drove in his team-best third run of the game,
Dustin Aguilar ripped a two-run triple. Aguilar later scored on a wild pitch for Kingsville's final run.
Cody Williams benefitted most from the run support. In his first start of the season, Williams pitched five scoreless inning scattering four hits and striking out three. Four Javelina relievers followed with each working an inning. The final two –
Mitchell Bro and
Hayden James – combined to allow one hit over two innings without allowing a run.
Guedry led the team with three hits and three runs as all nine starters had at least one hit.
Derrick Walls,
Taylor Taska, and Black all had two hits in the contest. Seven Javelinas drove in a run.
Greg Dobb suffered the loss to fall to 1-2. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks in 3-1/3 innings.
The Javelinas head west this week to Eastern New Mexico for a four-game series with the Greyhounds.
