Former Paris Junior College and Tyler John Tyler High School star Tammila Mitchell has singed a national letter of intent to attend Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Mitchell, a 5-7 guard, was a two-year starter at Paris Junior College for current Javelina head coach Scott Hyland.

“Tamilla is very strong, attacks the basket and is a good finisher,” says Hyland. “She can shoot the three-point shot. She had to play the point as a sophomore and did an excellent job. She finds ways to help her team win. She did that in both high school and junior college. Tamilla has the ability to come in and have an immediate impact and help take our program to another level.”

Mitchell averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game her sophomore season at Paris in 2005-06. She helped lead the Dragons to a 21-10 overall record and a third place finish in conference before an injury ended her season with five games left in the regular season.

She was an outstanding player at Tyler John Tyler High School, leading the Lions to a number one ranking in the state as a senior. John Tyler advanced to the regional semifinals before falling to state champion Spring Westfield her senior season.

Her older brother Tommy played Division I basketball at Siena College and is currently playing professionally in Canada.
