Kingsville – Senior pitcher Josh Livingston (Corpus Christi Moody) picked the right time to get back on track as he pitched a complete game eight-hitter in the nightcap as the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas won game two over the Northeastern State Riverhawks 3-1 after dropping the opener 10-5.
The Javelinas are now 20-15 overall and 15-11 in the Lone Star Conference.
Livingston, who had lost his last two starts, improved to 4-2 on the season while striking out seven and walking just one in winning his 20th career game at A&M-Kingsville, the third most in school history.
The Riverhawks got their only run of the game in the top of the fourth, but the Hogs bounced right back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning when Thomas Miller delivered a two-out run scoring single.
The Hogs then took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Owen Weaver singled and Miller walked to star the inning. Taylor Everett moved the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt. Will Alexander then laid down a squeeze bunt to score Weaver and Miller scored on a single by Lee Venegas.
Livingston then preserved the victory with come clutch power pitching in the seventh. After giving up a leadoff triple to Chris Sprick, he struck out Matt Huggard, Blake Neighbors and Kyle Davidson to end the game.
Joe Hamon (11), Weaver (10) and Everett (9) each extended their hitting streaks in game two.
The Hogs had their six-game winning streak snapped in the opener.
A&M-Kingsville actually out-hit the Riverhawks 14-13, but stranded 11 runners. James Brown (Corpus Christi King), Weaver, Miller and Wiley Crowson each had two hits and Everett had three hits to lead the Javelina offensive attack.
The two teams will conclude their four-game series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
