KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball coach Michael Trujillo added Rita Banaszczak, a native of Poland, to his 2012-13 recruiting class on Monday.

Banaszczak, a 5-10 shooting guard from Warsaw, Poland, is a transfer from Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri.  As a sophomore she averaged 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while knocking down 23 three-pointers.  She shot 91 percent from the foul line and dished out 2.6 assists per game for a team that went 15-16 last year.  As a freshman, she contributed 7.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Banaszczak attended LXXII Liceum where she played basketball under head coach Maciej Gordon.  During her last season she averaged 18 points per game with a high of 41 points.  She led her team to a third place finish in the Polish National Tournament in 2008.  She is the daughter of Janusz and Malgorzata Banaszczak and plans to study Biomedicine with a minor in Nutrition.
