Women's Golf Finishes 18th at Lion Intercollegiate

POTTSBORO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s golf team finished 18th place among 20 teams at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate at Tanglewood Resort. The Javelinas shot 360 in the first round and 354 in the second round of the 36-hole tournament and were within six shots of three other teams.

On the second day of the tournament, sophomore Brandy Rivera (McAllen/McAllen HS) separated herself from her teammates with an 82 to finish tied for 42nd place in 88-82=170. She moved up eight places during the round on the par-72, 5803-yard course.

The three other scoring Javelinas were Ashley Rivera (McAllen/McAllen HS), Ashley Coy (Bastrop/Bastrop HS) and Betsy Haddock (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces HS). Rivera fired back-to-back 89s to finish with a 178 total. Coy shot an 89 in the second round to finish at 91-89=180 while Haddock came in at 92-94=186.

The Javelinas finished four strokes behind Rogers State, five strokes behind Winona State and six shots behind Southwestern Oklahoma. St. Mary’s finished 12 shots behind the Javs and Ouachita Baptist came in at 382-393=775.

Tarleton State won the team title with a 312-319=631 finish. West Texas A&M fired the best second round and finished in second at 318-318=636. Arkansas Tech’s Rebecka Surtevall won the individual medalist honors with a 73-78=151 to win by three strokes over Tarleton State’s Jacqueline Lau and West Texas A&M’s Hammerli Sriyai.
