CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s golf team improved 86 strokes over last year’s performance at the Islander Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Corpus Christi Country Club. The Javelinas fired rounds of 360-332-349=1,041 on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, junior Betsy Haddock (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces HS) led the team with her best performance of the season. She fired a round of 81 and ended up second on the team after a 92-87-81=260 performance for the tournament. Ashley Rivera (McAllen/McAllen HS) led the team with an 85-83-90=258 total. Brandy Rivera (McAllen/McAllen HS) finished with 261 strokes and Ashley Coy (Bastrop/Bastrop HS) was right behind with 262 strokes. UT-San Antonio won the team title by 40 strokes after posting three straight rounds of 296. Lamar took second place with 928 strokes and A&M-Corpus Christi was third with 932 strokes. UTSA’s Summer Batiste and Taylor Newlin tied for individual medalist honors at four-over par. The Javelinas are back in action on March 12-13 at the A&M-Commerce Lion Invitational in Pottsboro, TX. #### pr12096smm |
