Golf Takes Second Place

LAREDO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s golf team finished in second place at the Jack Brown Memorial Tournament on Tuesday after firing rounds of 356 and 353 for a total of 709 strokes.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played at the 5,985-yard, par-72 Laredo Country Club. The tournament was hosted by Texas A&M-International.

The Javelinas were led by freshman Ashley Coy (Bastrop/Bastrop HS) who finished in fourth place after rounds of 85 and 88. Brandy Rivera (McAllen/McAllen HS) and Betsy Haddock (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces HS) each finished in the top 10 individually. Rivera posted a score of 85-92=177 and Haddock was one stroke behind her at 92-86=178.

Schreiner won the team title by 22 strokes over the Javelinas after posting scores of 343 and 344. UT-Brownsville finished in third place (366-349-715) and A&M-International was in fourth (380-358-738).
A&M-International’s Taminie Panich won individual medalist honors after carding a 79-73=152. Only one other player scored in the 70’s in either round.

The Javelinas are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Lady Rattler Round Up hosted by St. Mary’s.
