Baptiste Signs with Bears

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Former Texas A&M-Kingsville linebacker Tressor Baptiste signed with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.

The Bears are coming off an NFC North Division title in 2010 and report to training camp on Friday at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL.

Baptiste played one year for the Javelinas and spearheaded a defense that led the nation and set a school record for fewest rushing yards allowed per game. He took home a number of honors during the year including Lone Star Conference South Division Linebacker of the Year, First Team AFCA All-American, Second Team Daktronics All-American, Third Team AP Little All-American, Honorable Mention Football Gazette All-American and Honorable Mention D2Football.com All-American. He made 66 tackles on the season and led the team with 8.0 tackles for loss.

Baptiste is the second Javelina signed by the Bears in the last two years joining Jimmy Saddler-McQueen who was originally signed during the 2010 offseason. Former Javelina Roberto Garza is in his 11th year in the NFL and seventh year with the Bears.
