KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Despite forcing 27 turnovers, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball team could not slow down visiting Lone Star Conference South Division rival West Texas A&M on Wednesday night at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Buffalos shot over 60 percent from the field en route to a 70-56 victory. (box score) The Javelinas (6-13, 1-6) led for the first 10 minutes of the game, but a 12-0 run by the Buffs (17-3, 4-3) turned the tables. The Javs pulled back to within one point late in the first half after a layup by Marcus Ford (Colorado Springs, CO/Mesa Ridge HS) and a three-pointer by Mark Stevenson (South Bend, IN/R.J. Reynolds HS) with three minutes left in the half. The Buffs took at 27-23 heading into halftime. In the second half, LaDarius Hall scorched the nets hitting on all four of his three-point attempts as he scored 16 points in the first 14 minutes of the half to open up a double figure lead for the visitors. The Javelinas were able to pull to within nine points on two occasions late in the game, but could get no closer. The Javelinas shot 38.0 percent from the field, made 2-of-19 three-point attempts and were 16-for-25 from the foul line. Antwan Mullins (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) led the team with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor before fouling out. No one else scored in double figures. The team had 18 turnovers and grabbed 26 rebounds in the game, 12 on the offensive end. The Buffs shot 60.6 percent from the field, made 7-of-14 three-point attempts and were 23-for-31 at the foul line. Hall led all players with 26 points as he was 8-for-14 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line. Lionel Foster added 14 points and four assists while making 12-of-13 free throw attempts. Jacquiese Holcombe led all players with eight rebounds. The team committed 27 turnovers and grabbed 28 rebounds, four on offense.
