Hoggies Fall on the Road
STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s basketball team was dealt a 65-46 loss at Lone Star Conference South Division rival Tarleton State on Saturday evening. (box score)
The Javelinas (6-12, 1-5) fell behind early after the Texans (14-4, 5-1) scored the first 13 points of the game. The Javelinas briefly pulled to within single digits in the first half, but the Texans proved to be too tough to score against. TSU limited the Javelinas to 32 percent shooting from the field.
In the second half, the Texans led by as many as 30 points after a 22-3 run that started near the end of the first half and lasted until the Javelinas scored their second bucket of the second half with 9:01 remaining in the game.
The Javelinas went 16-of-50 from the field, made 9-of-24 from three-point range and were 5-for-10 at the foul line. Mark Stevenson (South Bend, IN/R.J. Reynolds HS) led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench. He went 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range. Reid Wallace (Spring/Tomball HS) added eight points.
The Texans shot 44 percent from the field, made 5-of-14 three-point attempts and were 16-of-22 from the foul line. Corin Henry and Fabian Wilson led the team with 10 points apiece. Henry also dished out five assists. Donta Smith and Wes Dipprey led the team with six rebounds each. TSU pulled down 17 more rebounds than the Hoggies and were able to outscore them 28-14 on points in the paint.
The Javelinas are back in action on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at home against West Texas A&M.
