KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team has appeared in a pair of preseason publications. They were picked 18th in The Sporting News and 22nd in Lindy’s Division II Preseason polls.
In 2009, the Javelinas went 9-3 en route to winning the Lone Star Conference title. They appeared in the national rankings for the majority of the season and hosted an NCAA Division II Playoff game.
The top returner for the team is senior running back Fred “Hollywood” Winborn (N. Hollywood, CA/Grant HS) who rushed for a conference best 1,295 yards in 2009. He was tabbed as a Preseason Second Team All-American by Lindy’s.
The Javelinas are one of five Lone Star Conference teams to appear in the preseason rankings. Abilene Christian, Midwestern State, Tarleton State and West Texas A&M all appeared in one or both polls. The Hoggies’ season opening opponent, Northwest Missouri State, is the defending national champion and preseason #1 in both polls.
