KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Every day Texas A&M-Kingsville gets one step closer to fielding its first varsity golf team since 1982 and on Monday they took a giant leap when Noel Allen was hired as the school’s head coach of their new women’s golf team after a nation wide search.
The Javelinas fielded a men’s golf team that competed in the Lone Star Conference until 1982, but have never had a women’s program until now. Allen comes to Texas A&M-Kingsville with quality credentials after playing four years of varsity golf at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN and then serving as an assistant golf professional and personal golf coach for three years. She has worked at both the Fredericksburg Country Club in Fredericksburg, VA and the Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club in San Diego, CA.
“Allen is exactly the type of person we were looking for to start our women’s golf program,” said Texas A&M-Kingsville Director of Athletics Kenneth Oliver. “She brings the energy, enthusiasm and experience that will put the women’s golf program on the fast track to competing for Lone Star Conference championships.”
In addition to earning a bachelor’s degree in Music from Trevecca Nazarene, Allen also attended the Temecula Professional Golfers Career College for six months. Allen and the Javelinas will tee it up starting this Fall.
The Javelina men’s golf program won one Lone Star Conference title in 1969.
