Javelinas set to compete at NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships

The meet will span three days on the campus of CSU-Pueblo

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program is making a trek to Pueblo, Colorado, with a wealth of student-athletes set to compete at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on the campus of CSU-Pubelo. The meet will span three days in The Centennial State, with competition running from Thursday through Saturday.
 
Sophomore Thomas Nieto will start things off at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday as he takes on the pole vault, an event that sees him seeded third with a season-best clearance of 5.45m (17-10.5) from the 2023 Crimson Tide Invitational.
 
Two more will compete on the inaugural day of the championships, with junior Michael Samihamba participating in the 400m prelims at 6:55 p.m. ahead of sophomore Ja'Qualon Scott in the 400m hurdles at 8:55 p.m.
 
Friday will see junior Veronica Garcia battle in the discus at 3 p.m. with her season-best distance of 46.90m (153-10) from the LSC Outdoor Championships, punching her ticket to the national meet. Classmate Paxton Hair will then compete in the men's iteration at 6 p.m., with his farthest throw of 54.24m (177-11) also occurring at the league meet.
 
The day continues on the track with Scott competing in the 110m hurdle prelims at 7:50 p.m., an event where he ranks third nationally at 13.56.
 
Shortly after, at 8:50 p.m., the women's 4x400m relay team comprised of freshman Melanie Roland, sophomore Vitiana Robert, newcomer Amber Gonzalez, and sophomore Cynai Christopher. 
 
Immediately following, the men's 4x400m relay squad will test its mettle, with a school record time of 3:08.48 run by Scott, Samihamba, junior Bryson Dyer, and freshman Tony Benitez seeding them third.
 
Saturday will begin with junior Katryna Hernandez in the shot put at 2:15 p.m., while classmate Markim Felix will take on the javelin at 3:45 p.m. Graduate student D.J. Delancy will then wrap up the field events with a 6:05 p.m. start time in the shot put.  
 
From there, running finals will begin at 6:20 p.m., ahead of a 10:05 p.m. men's 4x400m relay to conclude the meet.
