KINGSVILLE, Texas (Football) – A third quarter dominated by Midwestern State University (2-0, 1-0 LSC) was nearly erased as the Javelinas took a 30-29 victory with 1:59 left to play on Nick Pelrean's three-yard rush. However, the No. 12/10 ranked Mustangs were able to escape Javelina Stadium Saturday evening with a 32-30 victory over #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2-1, 0-1 LSC).
 
Pelrean finished with 84 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and defensively, Emond Hobbs picked up two interceptions. Julio De la Garza finished the night with three field goals, two of 40-plus yards.
 
First Quarter
Myles Carr capped off a 12-play, 75-yard drive with a 30 yard rush into the endzone for the first points of the game with 9:40 remaining. The carry was Carr's first rushing touchdown of the season.
 
Midwestern State scored its first points on a field goal, cutting the Javelina lead to 7-3 with 6:26 left to play.
 
Hobbs picked up the first of two interceptions with 27 seconds remaining in the quarter.
 
In the opening 15 minutes, Pelrean rushed for 50 yards and Carr added 43 yards on the ground. Anthony Autry picked up a 50 yard kickoff return.
 
Second Quarter
The Javelinas were able to extend their lead to 10-3 on De la Garza's 25-yard field goal at the 14:38 mark and later, a 47-yard field goal by De la Garza made it a 10-point ballgame with 10:35 remaining.
 
A safety for the Hogs tacked on two points as Texas A&M-Kingsville went into the locker room with a 15-3 lead.
 
Carr threw for 109 yards in the opening half and Pelrean rushed for 66 yards on 12 carries. Autry recorded 51 yards on two catches and added 74 yards on two kickoff returns.
 
Third Quarter
Turnovers plagued the Hogs and Midwestern State was able to score four touchdowns in the quarter to take a 29-18 lead. In between TDs, De la Garza connected on his third field goal of the evening, this time a 41-yarder.
 
Fourth Quarter
A tale of two quarters favored the Hogs in the fourth as coach Wilkinson's group showed their resiliency, scoring to begin the quarter and with 1:59 remaining in the game.
 
An 11-play, 70-yard drive that ended with Carr finding Stehly Reden for his first touchdown in a Javelina uniform with 13:11 left to play. Hobbs picked off Quade Coward for the second time and a long Javelina drive allowed TAMUK to regain the lead, 30-29, on Pelrean's three-yard rush.
 
Midwestern State began its final drive of the game with 1:59 left to play and on a second-and-goal, DeMarcus Spurlock stuffed Vincent Johnson, forcing MSU to call its final timeout.
 
With 12 seconds remaining, Midwestern State was able to take a 32-30 lead on an 18-yard field goal, escaping Kingsville with the victory.
 
Carr went 19-of-31 with 200 yards and a touchdown. Reden was on the receiving end of the TD throw and finished with 20 yards. Kyle Plum led the team with 61 yards on just two catches. Greg Pitre rushed for 67 yards on 22 carries and Jordan Thomas collected 30 on the ground and 10 in the air.
 
The Javelinas head to Texas A&M University-Commerce next week for a 6 p.m. slate.
