Haven Earns Fifth Place, All American Status at Outdoor Championships

Pueblo, Colo. – For the second time this year, freshman pole vaulter Jordan Yamoah claimed the national title during day three of the 2013 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Yamoah cleared a personal best of 17’-8.5” (5.40m) to win the competition. Grand Canyon’s Vince Frawley was the only other competitor for the last two heights.

During the indoor season, Yamoah won the national championship title in Birmingham, Ala., when he cleared 17’-4.5” (5.30m) at the beginning of March.

Also competing for the Javelinas, CJ Griggs won the national title with a 52’-5.25” (15.98m) leap during the men’s triple jump. His mark was almost seven inches farther than the second place leap and just .75 inches off his personal best jump.

Amanda Haven placed fifth in the women’s high jump after clearing 5’-8.75” (1.75m). That mark is a new personal best for the junior. Her previous mark was 5’-8.5” (1.74m) set at the Incarnate Word Last Chance meet which qualified her for the national meet.

This was Haven’s first NCAA national meet and she will now become an All American by placing in the top eight in the nation.
