Tommy Janik

Tommy Janik was an offensive back for the Javelinas and played on the Lone Star Conference and Great Southwest Bowl championship team in 1960.  He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of fame in 1982.

From Poth and an education major, Janik handled the team’s punting.  He led the team in punting in 1960 and 1962.

Janik missed much of the 1961 season because of a broken collarbone.  He was called by one LSC coach “the best runner in the conference”.

He led the team in rushing in 1962, was the team’s top receiver that year and also paced the team in scoring.

Janik was All-Lone Star Conference his first season in 1960 and after being injured in 1961, was named to the All-LSC unit and the All-Texas College squad in 1962.  He was selected to play in the Challenge Bowl all-star game after his senior season.

He played professional football after finishing at Texas A&I and was on teams in the National Football League and American Football League.

A brother, Jerry, was an All-America linebacker with the Javelinas in the mid-1960s.

Janik currently resides in Falls City.
