Glenn Starks

Glenn Starks was called “one of the greatest athletes in A&I’s history” by Gil Steinke, his head football coach in three of his four years at Texas A&I.  He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1983.

He was a wide receiver in 1974-77 and was an All-America honoree. He lettered for four years and also earned a letter with the basketball squad.

Starks set a record when he took an 86-yard touchdown pass from Richard Ritchie in 1976.  He holds LSC records for most touchdown receptions in a season and career, and for the most receiving yards in a career.

He led the team in receiving for four seasons and one year in scoring.  In addition to being an All-America pick, he was All-LSC three times, NAIA All-District and was named LSC lineman of the year in 1977.

Starks played on three national championship teams and four conference title squads.  The Javelinas posted a 46-1-1 record with him in the lineup.

He served as a captain in 1977.

Starks was named to the LSC team of the decade for the 1970s and to the Texas A&I team of the decade for the same period.

He returned to Texas A&I in 1979 as an assistant coach and that team won a national title and a conference championship.

Starks, from Houston, played at Jones High School.  He has coached in Ohio and Texas and resides in Houston.
